Not sure if your unit is AC or DC?

AC or DC?

Most engines generate alternating current to power lights, accessories, and to provide the necessary spark for the engine to run. If your engine was built prior to 2008 the odds are good it requires an AC CDI. A DC CDI is wired to the scooter's battery and uses the 12 V +/- drawn from the battery to supply the voltage for spark.

In order to get the proper replacement CDI you need to determine if you have an AC CDI or a DC CDI. A standard direct replacement AC CDI will be smaller in size than a DC CDI, measurement specs are listed for each of our part numbers. DC CDI's are larger because they contain a DC to AC transformer.

Another way to figure out the type of CDI your scooter needs is to check for voltage at the CDI. Turn the scooter key to the "On" position and, using a test meter or test light, check if there is current at the CDI. If there is 12 V at the CDI it is a DC CDI, if there is no voltage at the CDI it is an AC CDI. This is assuming the battery is charged, of course.

The stock CDI restricts the maximum RPM causing a significant loss of power

The stock CDIs on all buggies have a rev limiter that restricts rpm to about 5500. This Performance CDI has NO Rev Limiter and allows engines to achieve up to 9500 rpm. It also advances timing as the rpm increases to max out performance. Keep in mind that while this CDI will allow higher rpm, the CDI alone does not increase the rpms. The CDI works in conjunction with other installed upgrades to achieve performance.

Unplug and pull your stock CDI out. Carefully compare the connector plug to the picture to make sure it matches exactly. the pins should be facing the same way as on your stock CDI.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my order be shipped and how long does delivery take?
Orders containing in-stock items typically ship within 3–5 business days. Orders that include assembly will require 7–10 business days to prepare. Please note that during the holiday season (Thanksgiving through Christmas), processing times may be longer due to high order volume. Once your order has shipped, you’ll receive an email with tracking information. Most orders are shipped via Less Than Truckload (LTL) freight and generally arrive within 3–7 business days. Deliveries to remote areas (such as mountains, forests, valleys, or islands) may take longer. You can check the estimated delivery date on the carrier’s website using the tracking number we provide.
How your vehicle is shipped?
Unless otherwise noted, the vehicles we offer are shipped crated or on a pallet and do not come assembled unless you’ve selected our assembly service. Assembly typically requires a few basic tools and mechanical knowledge. If you're not confident in your ability to safely assemble a high-speed off-road vehicle, we strongly recommend selecting professional assembly or having it assembled by a local mechanic.

What does 95% or 98% Assembly Mean? What do I need to assemble if shipped in crate?

For shipping safety, most vehicles cannot be fully assembled prior to delivery.

Minor assembly is required—this typically includes installing mirrors, connecting the battery, adjusting handlebars, and other small components. Before operation, please ensure all screws and fasteners are tightened, engine fluids are at proper levels, and the battery is fully charged. Your factory warranty remains valid right out of the box.
